RAD

Double Fine Productions’ RAD was officially revealed in the Nintendo Direct of March 20. Since then it’s been demoed at PAX East, to help fans get a better idea of what the game will be like. It shares a similar art style to many of Double Fine’s previous works, like Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that features procedurally generated levels.

That said, one of the unique things to RAD is that your character has a mutation feature, but much like the levels, they are random as you fill a mutation bar fighting enemies, as Twinfinite pointed out in an impressions article. Some of them include turning your head into a cobra to quickly attack enemies, and one that allows you to lay eggs endlessly that mimic your character to attack enemies relentlessly as long as your bar is full.

How many of the mutations there will be hasn’t been detailed, but Double Fine hopes that the unique gameplay feature will blend together with the procedurally generated nature of the game to create a roguelike experience unique to each player.

RAD will release in the Summer for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
