Rewards such as additional modes and concept art, which could only be unlocked upon completion of certain challenges or the game, can now be unlocked with money.

Resident Evil 2 may have been an incredible modernization of an all-time classic, but in many ways, it felt decidedly old school- like in how the game rewards players depending on how skilled they were in their playthrough with various unlocks. These unlocks can be anything from costumes, character models, and concept art, to more tangible rewards like in-game buffs like infinite ammo for certain weapons, or even new modes.

Now, however, Capcom is offering purchasable DLC, which will allow you to unlock all of that for $4.99. While it’s a good thing for players who might not have had the time or the patience to meet all the in-game requirements to unlock all this stuff by themselves, those who’ve spent hours upon hours playing the game so they can round out their in-game collection of unlocks and goodies will no doubt feel a little miffed about this. It’s a shame, too, because the timing of this being turned into paid DLC feels a little shady as well- why wait more than two months to do so instead of just making it an option to begin with? The answer, from a cynical perspective at least, is obvious.

Resident Evil 2 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC- it managed to ship 4 million units within a month of its launch. Read our review through here.
