Nintendo’s President Aims to Diversify the Company’s Lineup Further

Shuntaro Furukawa wants to make a little something for everyone.

Current Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has come into the position at a prime time. After a somewhat rocky period with the floundering of the Wii U, the company has exploded back on the scene with the Switch, while also having revitalized mobile efforts. From their fiscal report yesterday, it became clear that everything from software, to mobile, to hardware is doing good numbers for the company. Furukawa wants to see that continue, and sees diversifying Nintendo’s lineup as a way to do that.

In the latest financial results briefing, Furukawa highlighted the Switch’s diverse first party lineup for 2019, and also said that they hope to improve an area Nintendo has been weak in for a number of years- third party support. He sees all of that helping to continue to create a diverse series of titles for an equally diverse customer base.

“We are also bringing an even richer variety of new titles from other software publishers as we enter the third year of Nintendo Switch,” said Furukawa. “What you see here is just a sample. These will range from evergreen titles for video game fans to titles that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age or gender, characteristic titles created by indie developers, a variety of genre-specific games, and more. By bringing them together, the Nintendo Switch library will continue to meet consumers’ diverse tastes.”

This year’s lineup looks good for Nintendo, so it seems Furukawa is on the right good track. We’ll see if things continue this way as time passes on.
