Predator Hunting Grounds

Along with a story trailer for MediEvil and a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake (finally), Sony had another rather intriguing game to announce at its State of Play broadcast. It’s called Predator: Hunting Grounds, and is an online asymmetrical multiplayer shooter developed by IllFonic, known for Friday the 13th: The Game. Sony Interactive Entertainment is publishing the game, in partnership with 20th Century Fox.

Predator: Hunting Grounds will release in 2020 for the PS4. It sees a squad of soldiers taking on the Predator, an alien hunter armed with powerful weaponry and stealth tech. IllFonic CEO Charles Brungardt noted that the game is “still pretty early in development”, but provided a few details. Players will carry out different missions, and all the while, the Predator will be in the background, waiting to strike. You’ll have shotguns, light machine guns, and sniper rifles, but the Predator can utilize active camo and the Plasmacaster.

“Creating an immersive world for the Predator universe has been so rewarding for our team. We’re massive fans of this IP, and it’s made us closely examine every aspect of the game to be certain we are staying true to the world. Fox has been an incredible part of this process,” said Brungardt.

“Our motto at IllFonic is ‘gameplay over everything’ and we believe that will be evident the moment players enter the hunting grounds. There will be surprises in store for everyone when the game launches next year.”

IllFonic had its fair share of troubles when working on Friday the 13th: The Game. Server issues plagued the game at launch, but it still sold 1.8 million copies. Development would eventually shift over to Black Tower Games in September 2018.
