Rainbow Six Siege Sequel is Not Planned, Next-Gen Support Likely

"We'd love players from every platform to be able to play together," says brand director Alexandre Remy.

Rainbow Six Siege

Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege is one of the company’s bigger success stories. After launching in a fairly underwhelming state, the development team spent time fixing its fundamentals, adding new content and improving the game substantially. Despite launching in December 2015, Rainbow Six Siege is still notching up impressive revenue, with $1 billion accrued in sales as of May 2019.

Normally, with that kind of success, you’d expect a sequel. However, according to brand director Alexandre Remy at the Pro League Season IX Finals, there are no plans for a sequel. This isn’t the first time that the development team has denied plans for a sequel. However, Remy told the Daily Star that the development team is looking to support the same game on next generation consoles when they release.

This would mean current players migrating over to the new consoles in time. “The reason behind this is we don’t want to segregate our community between the different platforms,” said Remy. “In an ideal world tomorrow, we’d love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit. We have to make every effort possible that when next gen comes in, they are treated as a high-end PC versus another PC.”

It remains to be seen if Rainbow Six Siege will benefit from the added power of the next console generation. Regardless, it seems unlikely that Ubisoft will drastically change its content delivery plans. Case in point, the recently revealed Operation Phantom Sight will signal the beginning of Year 4, Season 2, and introduce two new Operators.
