Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Won’t Have Human Dismemberment Because Of Disney Guidelines

This franchises loves cutting off hands, but not in this game apparently.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has a lot of eyes on it with a lot of anticipation. It’s the first major single player-focused game from the franchise in a very long time, and people are looking forward to jumping into it. One thing you may have noticed from footage so far is that limbs of the various human enemies have stayed sturdy, even as some droids have not. Why is that? Well, if you were looking forward to Fallen Order to cut off some clone trooper’s arms and legs- well, that’s pretty weird. But you’ll also be pretty disappointed, as it seems Disney guidelines prohibit human dismemberment.

IGN they spoke with Respawn about that after seeing extended footage of the game. They confirmed that it’s part of the guidelines Disney/Lucasarts puts down. An artist on the animated series, The Clone Wars, apparently backed this up. So the game’s combat may resemble Sekiro, but no one’s losing an arm here.

Interestingly, the reason isn’t as prudish as you’d expect. It’s less because of the violence itself and more that they want the dismemberment moments to have massive impact as they have in the films (such as Luke getting his hand sliced off near the end of The Empire Strikes Back). So it’s possible we may have a dramatic climax moment of someone’s arm or head being lopped off, but as far as average gameplay goes, a lightsaber won’t be slashing off any trooper limbs.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release on November 15th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
