The next entry in the indie platformer series, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, is approaching. It’s slated to hit all the major platforms later in the summer, but the team behind it also has to look beyond that as they mull over the DLC plans for the game, as well as if they’d like to do something a little different after the game has launched.

In an interview with Wccftech, Frozenbyte’s Kai Tuovinen talked about various aspects of the upcoming platformer, as well as the recent E3 demoing of it. On top of that, he looked to the future when asked about the game’s DLC schedule. He didn’t confirm anything, but said it was very possible the game will get DLC, saying, “We do like to support our games with additional content after launch, so there’s a good chance.” Trine 2 got a good amount of well-received DLC, but 3 didn’t get that treatment due to the lukewarm reception it got.

What about after Trine 4? The company has focused on the Trine series for multiple years now. Do they want to tackle something else in a different genre next? Even if it’s in the same universe? Touvinen said that they’re always looking at new ideas, saying the team constantly thinks of ways to expand the universe of the game, though he says nothing specific is in the works.

“Perhaps,” he said. “We like to toy with different ideas for the franchise from time to time. Nine Parchments was a top-down spell-based shooter, and it was in the Trine universe, so we’ve done at least a spin-off of the series in a different genre. Time will tell if we decide to do more experiments.”

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince will release this summer for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
