Wasteland 3 is “Our Fallout” – inXile

The developer plans to support the tactical RPG for a "long time".

InXile’s Wasteland 3, despite the oddly humorous tone of its latest trailer, is one of the more interesting games to look out for. Just yesterday, the development team discussed how it would be over 50 hours long, which is tough to estimate given the number of choices that players could make. In the same interview with Wccftech, studio head Brian Fargo talks about how the franchise is essentially “our Fallout”.

Speaking along with director Tim Campbell, Fargo said there’s a “full DLC plan.” “We want to really strongly support the game. We have a lot and not just in terms of patches and updates but new content as well, new levels, additional story, weapons and all sorts of things that will be rolling out.”

The reason why inXile could offer such support is due to being acquired by Microsoft. “Before we might have not been sure about DLC plans or not been able to commit very far. And for this one, we’re planning to support Wasteland 3 for a long time. We’re hoping to work on this franchise for the next decade. This is our Fallout.”

It’s interesting when you consider that Fallout was originally inspired by Wasteland. Considering that Wasteland 2 helped put inXile on the map in terms of success and acclaim, it makes sense that the developer would be so attached. Wasteland 3 is slated to release in 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It will feature multiplayer and character-swapping, two new features for the franchise, allowing two players to essentially co-op together and switch out different party members. Stay tuned for more details on the game in the coming months.
