Gears 5

Gears 5 might not be getting much info from The Coalition or Microsoft as far as its single player campaign is concerned (a fact which has a lot of people concerned), but on the multiplayer side of things, the developers have been shedding light on quite a few new things they’re bringing to the experience with the upcoming sequel.

One such new mechanic is the new recoil system, which, it seems, has some interesting implications on competitive online play. Taking to Twitter, Gears 5’s Multiplayer Design Director Ryan Cleven spoke about the new recoil system, which he says “brings a much higher skill gap”, by bringing the tuning sets for core and competitive play into a single system of tuning.

Cleven explained that core and competitive tuning sets are being done away with in Gears 5, and that the game will now have a single tuning set for both core and competitive play. When questioned about the impact this might have on those not looking for professional competitive play, Cleven clarified that the new tuning works well across both, core and competitive gameplay. You can read his tweets below.

Gears 5 is out on September 10 for the Xbox One and PC. A versus tech test is going to be held for the game later this month- read more on that through here. Also make sure to check out footage of its new Escalation mode and the Training Grounds multiplayer map.
