There have been murmurs here and there that Borderlands 3 will have cross-play. The July 16th “Celebration of Togetherness” was speculated to be the big reveal of that. Alas, it’s not to be- at least not as of yet. It seems that the anticipated looter shooter won’t be getting cross-play at launch, but it’s not totally out of the question, since Gearbox seems to want to get to it as soon as possible.

Taking to Twitter, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford shot down that the July 16th event would be the grand reveal of cross-play, but he did reassure people that it was something the company looked to pursue for when you need a friend from a different platform to tackle the lengthy campaign. He gives no time frame for when that may be, but says they will start on it as soon as “practicable” after launch.

Borderlands 3 will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC September 13th. Remember, those waiting for the game can get their first taste of it with the special mission released for Borderlands 2 that bridges the gap between the two games.
