Cyberpunk 2077 is coming next year, and it’s going to be big. Not just in the size of the game, but in the level of systems it hopes to employ. It’s an ambitious game that’s trying to implement a lot of interesting ideas. One that’s talked about today is “life paths.” When you start the game you will be given a path to choose as your character’s baseline origin story. It’s not an uncommon feature in many RPG titles, but 2077 is promising it’ll have major impacts on how you will interact with the game’s world.
On the game’s official Twitter, Quest Director Mateusz Tomaszkievicz talked about how choosing a path can change up how you interact with the world significantly. The example he gives is of someone who chooses being a street kid having an easier time negotiating with gangs, since he understands the lifestyle. Someone who went with corporate won’t have that same advantage, and will have a much harder time around that group. Of course, the reverse is true if you, as a street kid, find yourself in a corporation and having to rub up against the high life. Though, you still can’t actually kill a portion of them either way, so that’s universal at least.
It’ll be interesting to see how intricate the system gets when Cyberpunk 2077 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC April 16th, 2020.
