Since Nintendo’s Switch console has been a breakout success it has translated to third party support has been the best it’s been for a Nintendo console in many years. Still, there’s notable exceptions there, with the biggest being EA. The only games they’ve released for the system is the FIFA titles, and the Switch version of those have been notoriously stripped down. Today, the CEO of the company broke down exactly why that was.

In the latest fiscal reporting, Andrew Wilson said the lack of support on the system came down to the fact that he feels most players of their titles may own a Switch, but prefer to play on other platforms. While he was specifically talking about The Sims, his statement is general enough to apply to Switch ports as a whole.

Said Wilson: “We have a lot of data that would suggest a great many Switch owners also own a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One or a PC and very often choose to play the games that we make on those platforms, even though they have a Switch and they enjoy a lot of great content on the Switch.”

He doesn’t go into the specifics of how that conclusion was reached, but presumably some degree of research went into it. There is, of course, also a lot of technical limitations between the Switch and the other consoles on the market. Considering that coupled with what Wilson is saying here, I wouldn’t expect any more support for Nintendo’s portable anytime soon.
