GhostWire: Tokyo Creative Director Abruptly Departs Tango Gameworks

The sudden departure raises some questions on the game's development.

Ghostwire Tokyo

While there was a lot of interesting and fun things at this year’s E3, what stole the show for me was the trailer for GhostWire: Tokyo. While it’s up in the air what the game will actually be like (we know next to nothing about it, outside that it’s a near future setting), the trailer was an artful and haunting display. The game’s Creative Director, Ikumi Nakamura, also captured a lot of hearts with her spunky and quirky attitude. Now, though, it seems that she won’t be part of the project.

Nakamura announced via her official Twitter that she is not only leaving the project, but the entire studio of Tango Gameworks. Considering how little we’ve seen of GhostWire, it’s doubtful her work is finished. While it’s also impossible for anyone not there to know how sudden this was, considering how she was just mulling over sequel ideas not long ago, it feels incredibly abrupt.

Whether it was a born from creative difference, an offer from another company or something else entirely isn’t stated, and we may never know. We at GamingBolt wish her the best in her future pursuits, and hopefully the student of the legendary Shinji Mikami won’t be out of the game too long.
