BioWare might be in a state of uncertainty right now, especially with regards to the future of Anthem, but veteran fans of the studio do have some things to (cautiously) look forward to. The biggest of those is Dragon Age 4 (or whatever they end up calling it), which was officially unveiled with a short and cryptic teaser at least year’s The Game Awards.

There have been very few updates on the game since then- mostly, we’ve had reports from external sources that have spoken about the development issues the game has suffered in previous iterations, and how BioWare are yet to figure out several aspects of the game. Just recently, the game’s lead producer also left BioWare. Now, BioWare general manager Casey Hudson has published an update blog on the studio’s official website to give us a brief update on how development of the game is proceeding.

Speaking about upcoming projects, Hudson did not mention the next Dragon Age game by name, but did say, “I can confirm that indeed the Dread Wolf rises.” That, of course, is a phrase series fans will recognize, not to mention the fact that it’s also how Dragon Age 4 was announced last year to begin with. As per Hudson, there’s a “large and growing” team in BioWare Edmonton that is currently working on the game as it moves “through pre-production.”

“Based on the progress I’m seeing, I can confirm that indeed the Dread Wolf rises,” Hudson says.

It’s going to be a couple of years before we see anything concrete of this game, considering that it’s still in pre-production, which means we’re looking at a next-gen game here. I think I speak for all BioWare fans when I say I hope they get this right and quickly get back to their former, glorious selves.
