Microsoft are making big waves with their plans for next gen, and while initiatives such as Game Pass, xCloud, and their renewed focus on first party games is all definitely headline-worthy stuff, they’ve also got a new dedicated console coming out. And from what little we’ve heard of the Xbox Scarlett so far, it’s looking like an impressive piece of tech.

Of the specs that Microsoft have revealed for their next gen console so far, things such as its SSD have gained an awful lot of attention. But something else that has impressed people is its GDDR6 memory, which promises some interesting things in terms of bandwidth, among other things.

We recently spoke with Tim Ash of BoxFrog Games, developers of the arcade flight title Lost Wing. When asked about the Scarlett’s GDDR6 memory, Ash said that it’s “going to be a big boost to development” and that he is “really looking forward to working with the Xbox Scarlett.”

We also asked Ash about backward compatibility, which we know is being supported by both the PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett, and he was enthused about that as well.

“We are hugely supportive of backwards compatibility, it allows us to keep expanding the audience for our games,” he said. “We put so much passion and effort into each of our titles, the more people that can play them the better!”

BoxFrog Games’ Lost Wing is currently in early access on Steam, and is scheduled for a full launch for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch soon.
