Final Fantasy 7 Remake had a huge presence at the Tokyo Game Show. We got to see the full, uncut version of its E3 2019 gameplay demo, while Square Enix also showed off a new trailer. Beyond that, producer Yoshinori Kitase also took to the stage to show off a bunch of new gameplay footage, showcasing summons, another boss fight, mini-games, and more.

We’d actually seen glimpses of the squatting mini-game previously, in the aforementioned new trailer, so the thing that immediately grabs attention is the boss fight, which shows Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith taking on the Aps beneath Don Corneo’s mansion. We get to see new abilities for all three, and incidentally, this was also where the Classic combat mode was unveiled by Kitase.

Most notably, we got to see Summons in action, with Cloud summoning Ifrit to aid him in battle. Each character, Kitase explains, can carry a Summon Materia on their weapon, and the Summons Gauge builds up as you attack enemies. When Summons appear, you fight alongside them on the battlefield, and you can also make them do certain skills and attacks using the ATB bar. Summons stick around until the Summon Gauge depletes. Interestingly, it also looks like the ability to make Summons will be restricted to boss fights and other tougher encounters. Take a look at the whole thing below.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out on March 3rd, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
