Sony has a lot of studios under its belt. They have a long list of various teams from various places, with Insomniac Games being their latest acquisition. Alongside this, we also have an emerging Asian market, specifically China, in the gaming industry. Sony is watching that pretty closely, and the president of SIE Worldwide Studios sees a future where their many studios may team up with Asian developers for that market.

Speaking to GameWatch at Tokyo Game Show 2019, Shuhei Yoshida mulled over the emerging Asian markets. He mentions that we don’t see a lot of collaboration between US and European studios and Asian ones, and he can see more working together in the near future. We’ve seen hints of that with Chinajoy conference earlier in the year (thanks to Wccftech for translations).

“SIE Worldwide Studios is also a studio that plays a role in creating and deploying games in earnest as a publisher, and I think it’s rare in the world for developers from Japan, the US, and Europe to participate,” said Yoshida. “There is a possibility that Asian developers may join us in the future, and when that happens, we are starting to think that it would be interesting to think about creating games for the Asian market as well.”

China is an emerging market in many entertainment sectors, so there’s no doubt that Sony is among many looking at that new market with hope of penetrating it. It’ll be interesting to see what kinds of projects and collaborations we’ll see.
