A decent chunk of people haven’t been too thrilled about some of the changes to the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield due to the complicated issue of the National Pokedex being cut drastically. Well, it seems there may be something else people aren’t going to be too godawful happy about, as another change that’s sure to ruffle some feathers has also been confirmed: the game will feature autosaving.

There were rumors and speculation that would be the case due to some footage not too long ago. Now in an interview with Game Informer, Director Shigeru Ohmori directly confirmed that the game would have an autosave function for the first time in series history.

“It’s a new feature we’re implementing: full autosave functionality,” he says. “Traditionally in Pokémon games, it’s an important thing to write your report to record your save, and that’s always been a staple, like, ‘Remember to save your game!’ We do have an autosave feature this time, where you can just adventure and it’ll constantly save the game.”

Before you put your face in your palms in total despair, don’t worry too much. Ohmori also confirms in the same interview that the feature can be turned off, and you can use only manual saves just like you always could in the series. Meaning those who use it for catching, breeding, etc. can still use manual saving for their needs. So, you can breath a little easier, hardcore fans, for when Pokemon Sword and Shield releases on November 15th.
