Luigi’s Mansion 3, the latest ghost-catching adventure from the team at Nintendo, is out later this month on Switch. Following the tradition of past titles, it features a Nintendo console as part of its gameplay. If you want to go in without spoilers and be horrified accordingly, then stop reading here. You’ve been warned.

As Kotaku reports, it’s the Virtual Boy… or Virtual Boo, as it’s known in-game. Provided to Luigi as a means for communication by Professor E. Gadd, the device uses the same neon red interface that defined the Virtual Boy so many years ago. Not only are the menus in the same style but even parts for the Virtual Boo resemble old game cartridges.

Fans will remember the Game Boy Horror from the first Luigi’s Mansion, followed by the Dual Scream (based on the Nintendo DS) in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. If nothing else, this is a delightful continuation, that too one that pokes fun at Nintendo’s terrible “virtual reality” console. Luigi’s Mansion 3 releases on October 31st for Nintendo Switch.
