Streaming is going to part of the future for video games, one way or another. Whether it’ll be something right around the corner or not is anyone’s guess, but it also poses certain challenges for certain genres. For the most part, it won’t have a major impact, but certain games could see major issues. Fighting games especially, where things like framerates and latency can make a major difference. If you ask Yoshinori Ono, it’s something that’ll have to be addressed from the ground up.

During a panel at EGX 2019, the longtime Street Fighter Producer said that for fighting games, the new onset of streaming services will pose a unique challenge. He even goes as far to say that we’ll need to create fighting games from the ground up for these services saying, “If we could create a game that was designed from the ground up to be put out on of these streaming platforms, that might be more feasible in the future.” (As transcribed by PushSquare).

A few fighting games are announced to be coming to Google’s Stadia, such as Samurai Shodown. It’ll probably be some time before there’s an exclusive game for any of the streaming services, so we’ll just have to see how it all works out as this new tech comes to fruition.
