Nintendo Will Continue To “Enhance” Nintendo Switch Online To Attract More Users

We can expect the service to continue growing going forward.

Nintendo Switch Online

When Nintendo launched their paid online subscription service for the Switch last year, it was a pretty barebones package. Though it offered a catalog of free NES games, there were many who felt that it wasn’t worth the price of admission. Since then, however, Nintendo have made improvements to the service, with the promise of exclusive titles like Tetris 99 and the addition of SNES games being offered for free.

And Nintendo seems to have every intention of continuing onward in that fashion. In the company’s recent quarterly financial briefing, while speaking about Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that the publisher plans to continue enhancing the service to attract more users to it going forward.

“We have previously discussed out the importance of expanding the Nintendo Switch Online service in ways that appeal to consumers,” he said. “Here are the services and benefits added since the launch of Nintendo Switch Online last year. Going forward, we will continue to enhance service content to encourage owners of the Nintendo Switch system or Nintendo Switch Lite system to try the service and see its appeal first-hand, so they will join and maintain a subscription.”

Earlier this year, Nintendo talked about extending the library of classics offered via the service even further. That, of course, was followed by SNES Classics being made available, but one has to wonder whether Nintendo has plans to add games from even more systems. A library of Game Boy or Game Boy Advance classics on Switch Online would certainly be an attractive prospect.
