Final Fantasy 7 Remake (23)

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is coming out, and it’s no doubt something fans on are the edge of their seats about when the game hits at the beginning of next year. There’s always caution to be had when remaking a classic, though, and for this game in particular there’s sure to be radical changes. The biggest, of course, is this will be episodic unlike the original title meaning you’ll be spending a lot more time in certain locations (at least in theory anyway). It could also mean new interpretations of characters many love.

In a lengthy blog post detailing the remake’s core team, Scenarist Kazushige Nojima talked about writing Cloud for a new generation. He said due to new technologies and aspects like voice acting, there’s going to be a lot less left to the imagination meaning they have to think about how Cloud will connect with people on a different level than before.

“In Final Fantasy VII Remake, there will be much less room for player imagination. This fact will probably change the feel of the story considerably. People who know the original might not know quite how to take it. Such is the fear that I have. But I also have conviction. It should be possible to feel a much deeper connection to Cloud as you join alongside him. It would be amazing if you could feel that fiery flame together with him.

“I revisited the experiences that he’d had in his life so far, thinking of the effect that each individual event would have had on him. His attitude toward his childhood friend Tifa. How would he act toward Barret? What sort of distance would he keep while interacting with passers-by on the street? I picture the scene of Midgar in my mind and imagine Cloud moving through it. Write new lines of dialogue to add for him. This is how Cloud in the Remake Version came to be.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release March 3rd, 2020 for PlayStation 4. For some new wild screens that show combat, summons and characters, we’ve got a host of them through here.
