Well, that's certainly a goal.

It feels like we’ve been hearing about the mystic power of the cloud for years now, but as streaming gaming becomes more and more of a thing, the biggest promises are starting to become more and more possible. But there’s still a lot of lofty goals and ambitions as evident from what publisher EA expects the new technology to bring.

In a long reaching interview with GamesIndustry, EA CTO Ken Mass talked about EA’s investment in various different technologies including the likes of cloud gaming and new AI programming. When it came to what they expected from cloud gaming, it seems they have high sights thinking it will bring in another billion players into the fold.

“With streaming, our motivations are to be where the players are so that they can play our games wherever and however they want. Our actions are consistent with that. How cloud gaming evolves is uncertain right now, but it’s going to bring in another billion players into the gaming world. We say we’re at 2.6 billion or so right now. We want to make sure we’re at the forefront, but also get the early learnings so we know how to change how we build our games in that world.”

I mean, no doubt streaming can potentially open a lot of doors in places where gaming hasn’t reached in the past, but a full new billion consumers seems like a pretty high bar to reach. But hell, why not? Reach for the stars, I say, and see where you land in the end.
