When Microsoft went on a studio buying spree, Wasteland developers inXile is one of the many developers that found a new home. The acquisition came in the middle of development of Wasteland 3. Many fans always worry about a developer or studio losing their voice when purchased by a major corporation, but it seems inXile didn’t suffer that fate according to the developer.

In talking with Gamesradar,  Brian Fargo, founder of inXile Entertainment, said that Microsoft didn’t try to change the game they were making at all. In fact, he said that the company came in and encouraged them to continue making the best game they could on the current path they were on.

“Microsoft has just been saying, ‘do what you do, and do it better than before.’ They don’t want to change this game. They want InXile to be quirky and unique; they want Wasteland 3 to have dark humour, they just want to make it a better game – it’s been really exciting to be involved in.”

It’s not the first time they’ve said Microsoft was more help than burden, with them before saying the influx of time and money has obviously been a huge help to development. Whether or not Microsoft will become far more hands on with their new property in the future remains to be seen, but for Wasteland 3, it seems inXile still has their freedom. The game will launch May 19th 2020.
