Pokemon Sword and Shield Guide – How to Change A Pokemon’s Nature

At first glance, a Pokemon’s Nature may not mean much. However, they can influence stats considerably, affecting which stats increase faster (with another stat increasing at a slower rate). Pokemon Sword and Shield allows for changing a Pokemon’s Nature thanks to the newly introduced Mints.

You earn Mints at the Battle Tower with Battle Points. Simply play through the Tower and you should be able to accumulate enough BP to purchase Mints. It’s important to note that despite a Pokemon’s Nature changing with a Mint, their visible Nature remains unchanged. If the Pokemon is used for breeding, then their progeny will inherit the original Nature so keep that in mind.

What are the various Natures and what do they do? Let’s take a look at all 21 of them below.

  • Adamant: Attack increases faster at the cost of Special Attack increasing at a slower rate.
  • Jolly: Speed increases faster at the cost of Special Attack increasing at a slower rate.
  • Lax: Defense increases faster at the cost of Special Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Naughty: Attack increases faster at the cost of Special Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Lonely: Attack increases faster at the cost of Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Serious: Neutral. No stat will increase faster or slower than others.
  • Brave: Attack increases faster at the cost of Speed increasing at a slower rate.
  • Calm: Special Defense increases faster at the cost of Attack increasing at a slower rate.
  • Mild: Special Attack increases faster at the cost of Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Rash: Special Attack increases faster at the cost of Special Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Relaxed: Defense increases faster at the cost of Speed increasing at a slower rate.
  • Sassy: Special Defense increases faster at the cost of Speed increasing at a slower rate.
  • Bold: Defense increases faster at the cost of Attack increasing at a slower rate.
  • Careful: Special Defense increases faster at the cost of Special Attack increasing at a slower rate.
  • Gentle: Special Defense increases faster at the cost of Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Hasty: Speed increases faster at the cost of Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Modest: Special Attack increases faster at the cost of Attack increasing at a slower rate.
  • Naïve: Speed increases faster at the cost of Special Defense increasing at a slower rate.
  • Quiet: Special Attack increases faster at the cost of Speed increasing at a slower rate.
  • Impish: Defense increases faster at the cost of Special Attack increasing at a slower rate.
  • Timid: Speed increases faster at the cost of Attack increasing at a slower rate.
