Portal Unreleased Prequel Mechanics Revealed In New Videos

The camera mechanic of the prequel is explored in new videos.

While Valve took to revolutionizing PC gaming as we know it, that all came at a cost. The company was once renowned for their games, both in single and multiplayer. While Half-Life is coming back to us in the form of Half-Life: Alyx, there’s still other series that are, for now, on the wayside. The sister series to Half-Life is one of them: Portal. While there’s no word as of now on a Portal revival, we are getting a peek at something that could have been.

In a series of videos from LunchHouse, we will get to see experimental recreation of a third Portal game, one that would have been a prequel to the first two. The name was apparently going to be Aperature Camera (codenamed F-STOP) and make use of cameras in unique and interesting ways.

These aren’t just fan recreations, this “Exposure” series will use code from the original Source engine of F-STOP/Aperature Camera, in which Valve has given them permission to use. While it won’t be a pure recreation per say, it will give us an idea of the what the game’s core mechanics would have been like. The first video is live now, which you can see below.
