Of all the features that have been confirmed for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X so far, the one that has grabbed the most headlines has to be the inclusion of a solid state drive (SSD), which both next-gen consoles boast of. Developers across the industry have spoken about how the SSDs are going to positively impact games in more ways than one. Recently, another developer added its voice to the pile.
Speaking recently to Wccftech, Torn Banner Studios, developers of the upcoming multiplayer hack-and-slash title Chivalry 2, spoke about next-gen consoles and their inclusion of SSDs, with studio head and lead gameplay designer Steve Piggott cagily saying that they’re “excited about it”, and that it’s “definitely a step forward.”
He had more to say though, and went on to add that the impact of SSDs would really vary based on the kind of game in question, with streaming and open world titles, according to him, being the games where a solid state drive will make the most difference.
“[The SSD improvement] really depends on the type of game,” said Piggott. “There’s some games where that won’t be a huge deal, but if you have anything that’s open world or streaming, it really will make a difference.”
Recently, Metro developers 4A Games also spoke about next-gen hardware- though they seem to be a lot more excited about the features in PS5 and Xbox Series X that Sony and Microsoft haven’t yet publicly spoken about. Read more on that through here.
Chivalry 2 is due out for PC later this year.
