Google Says It’ll Take Time To Realize The “Bold” Vision Of Stadia

The company says patience is needed.

Ever since it launched last year, it’s hard to really look at Google Stadia and call it a success. While the company hasn’t released any official stats, the service went a long time with no updates, something Google eventually addressed, and in general, they’ve been silent on almost all fronts of the streaming service. It feels like it’s a long way from the promised revolution we were promised when Stadia was first unveiled. Well, it seems the company just needs some time- at least, according to them.

Talking to Engadget, Director of Product Management for Google Andrey Doronichev addressed the concerns on the product. He said it was simple: the service just needs more time. The vision that was presented was big and bold, and in the end it was going to take awhile to get there.

“We went ahead announcing our vision, which is big, and it will take us time to get there,” said Doronichev. “This is fine. This is great. This is what it’s all about, right? It’s not just about some marginal improvements, it’s not about a specific feature. It’s about a big, bold statement of where we are going. We’re going there very, very confidently. So judging by the velocity so far, if anything, I’m more confident in our ability to deliver and over-deliver.

“Stadia is built on the same infrastructure, Google infrastructure, that has been delivering search queries and YouTube videos for billions of users out there all over the world over the last decade or two. So this is one of the things where I think that at this point there’s no question we can do it.”

In the end, it seems like Stadia was simply launched too early, before the company was ready to put their full weight behind it. Google has the baggage a graveyard of programs and ideas, too, so that too makes you wonder. They are expanding Stadia, however, so the seeds are being planted. In the end, time will have to judge where Google’s service is going to land.
