Small text has been a problem in more than a few modern games, chief among them being Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds. Though the developer released a patch in November 2019 to increase font size for conversations and subtitles, the upcoming patch 1.3 is doing even more. It will add font scaling to adjust text size “throughout most UI” and improve font visibility with colours.

Other changes coming with the patch include Ultra-wide support for cinematics and loading screens, and multi quest map tracking. The latter means you can quests that are inactive on the map and then select them. A fix is also coming the Chromatic Aberration setting not saving.

The patch will go live later this week for all platforms so stay tuned and check out most of what’s planned below. The Outer Worlds is currently available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It was slated to release today for Nintendo Switch but faced a delay due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. An updated release date has yet to be announced.

UI Changes

  • Font Scaling (added a setting to adjust the size of text throughout most UI)
  • Ultrawide Support (loading screens & cinematics)
  • Improved Font Visibility (coloring)
  • Multi Quest Map Tracking (can see inactive quests on the map and select them)
  • New Reticle HUD Setting Option “Aiming Only” (ADS or Scoped)
  • Fixed the Chromatic Aberration Setting not Saving

Gameplay Changes

  • New Invert “X-Axis” Setting
  • Added Toggle for Sprinting
  • Improved the quality of item drops when killing Manti-Queens
  • Fixed the effects of Encumbrance not working correctly with the Confidence Perk
