Apex Legends has managed to craft out a nice place for itself among the now crowded battle royale shooter genre. It’s still growing, too, with the game set to come to China and mobile devices sometime in the near future. One thing it is lacking, though, that its biggest rivals (in the likes of Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone) has is crossplay. The feature is slowly becoming a standard in this type of multiplayer-focused title. While we haven’t gotten anything official about it, seems the team has it on their mind, at least.
In the latest issue of Game Informer (issue 324), the COO of Respawn Entertainment Dusty Welch was asked about the status of crossplay. While he didn’t give any details about upcoming updates, he did say it was something to team was looking at. He also noted the importance of potential implementation of crossplay that will hopefully come.
“I think on crossplay we see it’s something that is kind of expected in the industry and is important to a game like ours,” he explains, “Chad [Grenier, Game Director] and I are obviously big fans of playing our game at work and in our free time — and we go home on a Friday or weekend and want to play with each other and we’re on different systems. On a personal level, yes, we’d love to do that and party up on the weekends. I think it’s an important thing to get to.”
Apex Legends is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The newest event for the game, The Old Ways, will start tomorrow and you can read more about it through here.
