Sony have recently started unveiling new information about the PS5 after many months of torturous silence. After having recently done a tech deep dive on the console, they have now unveiled the console’s new controller. While Sony has generally stuck to a traditionally unchanging design since the days of the original PlayStation, they’re going things a bit differently with the PS5.

The PS5’s new controller is called the DualSense. The most striking change it makes is an aesthetic one- where PlayStation controllers have generally gone with a single colour scheme in the past, the DualSense goes with a two-colour scheme, with black and white being the default. The position of the light bar has also changed, and is now visible on the edges of the touch bar, as you can see in the images above and below.

Beyond that, the most significant bit of new information revealed by Sony is that the Share button – introduced with DualShock 4 – is gone, and has been replaced by the new “Create” button. It encompasses the functions of the Share button, but does more as well. Sony hasn’t said much about this, but says it will “once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves.” New details on this will be shared “closer to launch.”

The controller also boasts adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, which Sony had unveiled a while back, with the latter of the two replacing the rumble that controllers in consoles have had since the days of the N64. Meanwhile, there’s also a microphone built into the controller, while Sony also says it’s made adjustments to the controller’s size, grips, ergonomics, and more.

“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5,” said Jim Ryan, PlayStation boss. “The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”

The PS5 is still scheduled for a Holiday 2020 launch. With more new info on the console emerging every day, stay tuned to GamingBolt for all those latest updates.
