Cyberpunk 2077 May Have To Add Some Voice Work In A Patch

Complications due to remote work could mean some voice work will have to be patched in.

With everything happening in the world, it’s pretty natural to wonder if some of the most anticipated titles coming up are going to get hit with delays (as well as upcoming hardware, but that’s a different story). One game people are really wondering about is Cyberpunk 2077. The game already got a fairly significant delay already. But developer CD Projekt RED seems pretty adamant that the game will make its current September release. But it does seem there’s some caveats to that.

As detailed by VGC, in a financial results conference call SVP of Business Development Michal Nowakowski made clear that he still expected the game to hit its current release date. However, he did note something interesting that could be an issue due to the remote work that is now being done to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Apparently, since so many recording studios are shut down, it means they may not be able to gather some of the late voice recordings. Some of that might have to be put in with a patch.

“There are some difficulties with the localisation process, specifically with recording some of the actors,” Nowakowski said. “Most of the studios are closed down right now, at least for the time being.

“However, we have managed to record the vast majority of the voice overs, but there are always some last pick-up sessions, and we’re not very worried about that because that’s something we can record even later and add in the form of a digital patch, so by the moment the customers will actually buy the game in September they would just download a file which would add the missing pieces of recordings, but that process has been hampered a little bit.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently slated to be released on September 17th, and has already been submitted for ratings to the majority of countries. CDPR is so confident in hitting that date, they’re already talking about the DLC that will come after. Fingers crossed they aren’t being overly confident.
