Sony Wants to Ensure a Simultaneous Global Launch for the PS5

The directive allegedly comes from PlayStation chief Jim Ryan himself.

The logistics of a timely launch for next-gen consoles are proving to be tricky for both Microsoft and Sony, but recent reports have indicated that Sony in particular are looking to make some compromises to ensure that they do not have to push the PS5 back from its current Holiday 2020 release window. A recent Bloomberg report claimed that due to production issues, Sony will be going with a limited release that will see them releasing fewer units of the hardware on the market– but one thing that it seems Sony absolutely does not want to do is stagger the launch based on region.

According to the report, Sony wants to ensure that the PS5 releases simultaneously across the globe, and this directive comes from PlayStation chief Jim Ryan itself. That, of course, makes a lot of sense, and is something even Microsoft (who went with a staggered launch for the Xbox One) have been vocal about. Though how Sony (and Microsoft) manage to nail the logistics of a simultaneous timely global launch given the current circumstances will be worth keeping an eye on.

A recent report also indicated that both consoles might release in the price range of $450-$500, while another report still has suggested that a reveal for one (or both) might be coming as soon as May.
