Gearbox Software’s next major update for Borderlands 3 will see the end-game Mayhem Mode completely revamped. Mayhem 2.0 will be accessible from one’s ECHO device as opposed to Sanctuary 3 and is now broken up into ten levels with new Legendary gear locked behind the higher tiers. In a new blog post, Gearbox talked about exactly what’s changing.

First up, there are 25 new modifiers which have been divided into Easy, Medium, Hard and Very Hard. Depending on the Mayhem Level, there will be a mix of different modifiers at play. For example, Mayhem Level 1 will have one modifier but it will be an Easy one. Mayhem Level 3 will have three modifiers, one being Easy and two being Medium difficulty.

Some examples of modifiers include Big Kick Energy (Easy) which increases weapon damage at the expense of added recoil and spread; Floor is Lava (Medium) causes self-damaging lava to gather at your feet when standing still, encouraging constant movement; and Drone Ranger (Hard) which sees enemies backed up by healing drones. The good news is that weapons at higher Mayhem Levels will always be stronger, providing a substantial damage boost as you work through the tiers. Even better is the fact that eight new Legendaries can be found from Mayhem Level 6 or higher.

There’s the Sand Hawk, a Legendary sniper rifle that’s fully automatic and shoots bullets in the shape of a hawk. These new Legendaries will be found from certain bosses so you might want to experiment and see who drops what. Mayhem 2.0 launches tomorrow for all platforms – stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
