Over the last week, there’s been lots of murmurs out there about a potential hack going on in the Nintendo ecosystem. Nintendo investigated the claims, leaving some to wonder what the scope of it ultimately was. Well, the company has finally officially made a comment and confirmed that, yes, there was a hack and some accounts were compromised. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like it was as bad as it could have been.

The original Japanese Nintendo website posted an update confirming that roughly 160,000 accounts were compromised during the attack. The accounts in question used the old legacy Nintendo Network ID to log into their Nintendo accounts and had personal information shared. The Nintendo Network ID system has been deactivated and affected users will be contacted and have their passwords reset.

Thankfully, while some personal information was seen by third parties, credit card information does not appear to have been part of that, so you can breath a sign of relief there. Things like name, birthday, country, and email were seen by a third party, however. You can read more details at the official site through here, and it’s highly recommended that you change your password, as well as enable 2-step authentication.
