Nintendo President Says They Have More Unannounced Titles Planned This Year

The world and society at large may be falling apart, but for Nintendo, things are riding pretty high. They Switch system has been a breakout success, selling nearly 56 million units. They will cap off this month with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, but to be honest, it’s a tad on the dry side after that. There’s a few smaller scale titles, but nothing major from the big N has been announced. There are plans, however, but those plans could change.

In the latest Nintendo Annual Financial Briefing Q&A, President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed there were unannounced titles that are planned to be released in the later part of 2020. That probably sounds like an obvious statement, but the company has been pretty quiet about the second half of the year, and there has been concerns relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even during this Q&A, Furukawa did warn that there could be delays, but as of now they are making their financial forecasts as if those planned titles will release (Big thanks to Robert Sephazon for transcribing and translating). 

What could Nintendo have in store for the latter part of the year? There are rumors of Mario re-releases coming, and we do know that Metroid Prime 4 and Breath of the Wild 2 are in development, though either one being ready for this year is pretty doubtful. We’ll just have to wait and see. 

He mentions there are other titles they plan to release this year in addition to those already announced. However, it may be difficult to finish development during the current situation, as employees are working from home. Their forecast assumes they will release as planned.
