From a technical standpoint, it was an exciting day in the game industry. Epic Games unveiled their next major development engine, Unreal Engine 5. It had a pretty impressive tech demo, and has the internet abuzz from a variety of areas whether it be knowledgable fans or those actually in the industry. What’s the extent of its range? Well, it’s looking pretty good there.

Twinfinite has reported that Epic Games has confirmed that the engine will support all current and next generation consoles, meaning that all the dedicated hardware will be supported for the foreseeable future as well as obviously PC and mobile. There’s plans to have tools to make Unreal 5 scale down easier and more efficiently to less powerful decides, building content once and then allowing you an easier way to play it across multiple devices.

It’s all very exciting on paper, but we won’t be seeing a lot of titles fully on UE5 for a good while since it won’t be available until next year. But, of course, it will probably become something of a pseudo-standard much like UE4 is now. It will continue to be updated and evolve, so lots of interesting times ahead.
