Ghost of Tsushima – Enemy Health Will Never Increase at Higher Difficulties

Even with the PlayStation 5’s showcase of games on the horizon, several PS4 exclusives continue to hog the limelight. One such title is Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima, a massive open world action game set on Tsushima Island during the Mongol invasion in 1274. Combat has been described as “very challenging” but there are multiple difficulty options for those who want to take it up (or down) a notch.

Usually, enemies at higher difficulties will have increased health bars. Will this be the same for Ghost of Tsushima? In a recent Q&A session on the PlayStation Blog, game director Nate Fox provided some more clarity. He first outlined the various difficulty levels that can be expected and how this affects enemy behavior.

“The game does feature three levels of difficulty — Easy, Normal, and Hard. On HARD, the game is fair, but very challenging. Mongols are more aggressive, and players must be precise to pull off extraordinary moves. By comparison, EASY is for players who want to explore the island, enjoy the story and still be occasionally tested by a worthy opponent.”

That being said, enemy health will remain static. “No matter which difficulty players choose we never increase the health of enemies; this is to maintain the lethality of the katana. Our combat is all about the player’s skill,” said Fox.

Ghost of Tsushima releases on July 17th for PlayStation 4. Check out the latest deep dive gameplay presentation here. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
