Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a pretty exciting and surprising reveal at the recent PS5 event, and what made it even more exciting is the fact that the game’s primed to accompany the PS5’s launch later this year. Soon after its reveal, however, comments made by a PlayStation exec led to some confusion about the nature of the game. That confusion was promptly dispelled by Insomniac Games, who confirmed that contrary to some report, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was going to be a standalone game, not an expansion or a remaster.

That said, given the confusion, there’s been some talk over whether Sony blew the game’s significance out of proportion for the sake of generating hype for the PS5. However, according to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, that’s not the case at all. Speaking with CNET, Ryan said that the new Spider-Man game’s reveal was not a “trivial or misleading” one, and that Sony would not put something like that on the top end of their next-gen reveal.

“I can safely say that we would not effectively lead the next-gen portion of the show with something that was either trivial or misleading,” he said.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is out for the PS5 this holiday.
