Hopefully, that'll help with the fan.

Well, it was finally unveiled. Sony showed off their PS5 after what feels like years of anticipation. The design is, uh, different. Yeah, we’ll go with that. You can’t knock it for looking too bland, at the very least. It’s also quite big. Most estimates put it as bigger than both the Xbox Series X and PS4 Pro on their size. It looks like this generation is going to be defined by some pretty big consoles, but there’s a reason for that.

The VP of UX Design for PlayStation, Matt MacLaurin, has taken to his LinkIn to answer a few questions about the design. When asked by someone about why the system was so big and bulky his answer was the thermals. He described the system as basically a little supercomputer that needs all that space for the sometimes extreme heat the power can produce, saying, “This gen is little supercomputers. While the 7nm process delivers amazing heat performance for the power, the power is very extreme.” Hopefully, it can help avoid a repeat of the fan issues that came with the PS4 Pro.

As of now, there is no launch date for the PlayStation 5, and Sony is doing everything they can to avoid talking about the actual price. We are getting a full reveal of the system’s UI soon, so stay tuned for that.
