As we approach the launch of next-gen consoles later this year, it goes without saying that hardware sales of current-gen systems will be slowing down. For instance, the PS4 has been selling pretty low numbers in Japan for a while now. Last week, in fact, it sold less than 1,000 units, moving just 883 consoles across the duration of the week. It actually sold less than the 3DS, which sold nearly 1,200 units. The Switch topped hardware charts again, unsurprisingly, but saw an over 50% drop as well, moving over 70,000 units.

On the software side of things, Animal Crossing: New Horizons topped the charts once again, as it has been doing consistently since launch, selling over 42,000 units. Ring Fit Adventure followed close behind in second place, while Ghost of Tsushima jumped back up to No. 3, continuing to enjoy solid sales in Japan. Other games in the top 10 have become familiar faces in these charts, including the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Splatoon 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and more.

You can check out the full Japanese software and hardware charts for the week ending August 23 below.
