Few franchises can stand the great test of time, and it seems even fewer fighting ones can manage. Of the once populated genre, only a handful remain at the top of that mountain, with maybe the king being Mortal Kombat. The latest entry in the series, Mortal Kombat 11, is showing that now, and more is soon to come.
Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat Creator and Director, took to Twitter to announce as of now the eleventh entry in the series has surpassed 8 million sales. For reference, the game has been out for close to two years, and the previous title sold 11 million within a 4 year time frame, putting 11 solidly on track to most likely be the highest selling entry or very close to it. Part of that has been its great post-launch support, something that seems to be continuing with an announcement set for next week. Through datamining it seems more characters, and even a second story expansion, could be in the cards.
While signs point to a next gen Mortal Kombat being in the works, it seems for the time being the focus will still be on Mortal Kombat 11, which you can pick up now on all major platforms.
After 8 million (and kounting) MK11 games sold we're not done yet. Stay tuned to see what's next for MK11 this week!#KombatKontinues
