We’re at a point in the next-gen pre-release hype cycle that more granular details about the upcoming consoles are being revealed. For instance, various outlets and members in the press have had access to the Xbox Series X for a while, which has led to plenty such details on the console.
Recently, reports had been circulating that the Xbox Series X produces a lot of heat while running, but another new report denies that claim. GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb did a temperature test on the Xbox Series X, comparing it to an Xbox One X, a PS4 Pro, and an RTX 3080/Ryzen 9 3900XT PC. In the case of each system, they were booted after having been left off for 30 minutes, after which the Mumbai level of Hitman 2 was played for 10 minutes on each before the system’s temperature was tested.
The Xbox Series X had an average temperature of 47.7C, lower than the average temperatures of the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro at 52.1C and 62.5C respectively, but higher than an RTX 3080/Ryzen 9 3900XT at 35.5C. The minimum temperature of the console told a similar story, with the Series X measuring at 38.9C, compared to the Xbox One X’s 50C, the PS4 Pro’s 60.1C, and an RTX 3080/Ryzen 9 3900XT’s 32.1C. Finally, at max temperatures, the Xbox Series X tested at 50.4C, compared to the Xbox One X’s 54.5C, the PS4 Pro’s 65C, and an RTX 3080/Ryzen 9 3900XT’s 44.1C.
It seems an efficient cooling system has been a priority for all next-gen consoles, with the PS5’s cooling also having been praised by media during hands-on impressions. It remains to be seen how the Xbox Series S will fare on this front.
The Xbox Series X/S launch worldwide on November 10. Microsoft recently revealed their full launch lineup- check it out through here.
