2020 has been a year of upheavals, a year of ups and downs, a year that has been – to say the very least – very eventful- and all of that is true for the games industry as well. A lot has happened over the past twelve months, and though there have certainly been enough highlights to get us excited about the future, there’s been quite a few controversies as well. Here, we’ll look back at some of the biggest controversies that popped up in the industry over the course of the year.

THE LAST OF US PART 2 LEAK AND BACKLASH

The Last of Us Part 2

To say that The Last of Us Part 2 was a hugely anticipated release not just weeks and months, but even years before its launch would be a bit of an understatement. Just weeks before it came out though, following the game’s second delay, some of the most crucial parts of the story leaked. That was a major blow, especially given how narrative driven (and thus, easily spoilable) game The Last of Us Part 2 is, but what nobody could have expected was the reaction those leaks provoked. The response to some major story beats was extremely negative, and the game ended up being at the receiving end of massive backlash even before it came out.
