Famitsu has released the data for video game software and hardware sales in Japan for the final week of 2020 (or the first week of 2021, depending on how you look at it), and it was, to nobody’s surprise, a big week for Nintendo, as was the one that preceded it. On the hardware side of things, the Nintendo Switch was easily the highest selling console, with over 312,000 units sold, far outselling even the new consoles.

The PS4 was the second highest selling console of the week, and had a healthy lead of over 7,000 units over its successor, the PS5, which was placed third. The Xbox Series X/S, meanwhile, placed last, with even the 3DS managing to sell more. Unsurprising, since Xbox has been a week brand in Japan.

On the software side of things, Konami’s strategy title Momotaro Dentetsy: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! was once again on top of the charts, selling over 190,000 units. Every single game in the top 10 was a Switch title, with Nintendo evergreens like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Ring Fit Adventure, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Minecraft, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and Super Mario Party enjoying solid sales.

You can check out the full software and hardware charts for the week ending January 3 below.
