It’s been confirmed for a while that the next entry in the Battlefield series will be coming out in late 2021, and EA have talked about how DICE are going to use the more powerful hardware of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to “deliver on a true next-gen vision for the franchise” with “never-before-seen scale.” In its latest quarterly fiscal earnings release, the publisher provided on the shooter’s development.

EA has re-iterated that Battlefield 6 will launch in Holiday 2021 and will “full advantage of the power of next-generation platforms to bring massive, immersive battles to life with more players than ever before.” CEO Andrew Wilson says the game will “mark a return to all-out military warfare” for the franchise, with large-scale multiplayer maps and improvements in destruction and weapons and vehicular combat, before adding that the game will be revealed this Spring.

“We’re looking forward to sharing a lot more about our FY22 plans in the months ahead, including our next Battlefield experience, which will mark a return to all-out military warfare,” said Wilson. “The game takes full advantage of the power of next-generation platforms to bring massive, immersive battles to life with more players than ever before. Featuring maps with unprecedented scale, the next edition of Battlefield takes all the destruction, player agency, vehicle and weapon combat that the franchise is known for and elevates it to another level. The team is focused and the game is ahead of our internal milestones. We’ll reveal the game in the spring, and deliver a defining Battlefield experience for our players in the 2021 holiday season.”

Recent leaks have indicated that Battlefield 6 will take the series back to a modern-day setting, and that it will be a cross-gen release, with a dedicated team within DICE handling the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Read more on that through here.
