Disco Elysium was one of 2019’s biggest surprises. ZA/UM’s debut game launched to widespread critical acclaim, offering a detecting role playing experience unlike any other. Soon, it will be coming to consoles in the form of Disco Elysium – The Final Cutwith the promise of new content and improvements like full acting. But what exactly can players expect from the new quests?

Speaking in a recent interview with Push Square, writer Justin Keenan said that the game’s new political vision quests will be “the heart of the new material”, and revealed that these were quests that the developer had been planning on putting the game for a long time, but only got the chance to do so with the upcoming Final Cut.

“We’ve added a few new things for players to discover here and there, but the heart of the new material are these political vision quests,” Keenan said. “These are four mutually exclusive quests, one keyed to each of the game’s four major ideological alignments. These quests (or some version of them) have actually been planned for a long time, but unfortunately they didn’t make it into the original release, so the Final Cut has been a great chance to revisit some ideas that have been on our minds for a while and really do them right.”

Keenan went on to add that the new quests won’t impact the game’s main story in any major way, and will instead serve to bring some of the story’s ideological themes to “a satisfying conclusion”. That said, players can expect each of these new quests to be unique from each other, and from the quests of the main game.

“By design, these quests won’t have a major bearing on the game’s main storyline,” he said. “Really, these quests are meant to give players the chance to bring some of the story’s ideological themes to a satisfying conclusion and explore what’s really going on behind the political posturing that the protagonist sometimes likes to engage in.

“I should also say that each of these quests is unique — they’re as different from one another as they are from any of the other quests in Disco Elysium. Some introduce you to new characters, some come with new items, others permanently change your UI or some other piece of the world. I really don’t want to say anything more about them than that.”

Disco Elysium – The Final Cut releases for PC, Stadia, PS5, and PS4 in March, and will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One later in the year.
