Diablo 2: Resurrected Developers Will “Continue to Look at” Possibly Adding Cross-Play

But it won't be in the game at launch.

True to recent leaks, Blizzard unveiled and announced Diablo 2: Resurrected at BlizzConline this weekend. A remaster of the beloved action RPG, it’s a game with obvious and immense appeal (if it can be handled properly, that is). Of course, given the fact that multiplayer is a big part of the Diablo experience, questions about cross-play are being asked often.

Though Diablo 2: Resurrected will have cross-progression across the many platforms it is releasing for, it won’t support cross-play- at launch, at least. Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, Rod Fergusson – formerly of The Coalition and now the head of the Diablo franchise at Blizzard – said that though the game won’t have cross-play at launch, it was indeed something the developers looked at during development, and will continue to look at following release as well.

“It’s something we looked at, for sure, as part of looking at cross-progression, but the cross-progression was the clearest indication of what we should be doing,” said Fergusson. “And so cross-play is something we continue to look at. But it’s not something that’s going to be in there at launch.”

Diablo 2: Resurrected will launch for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC later this year, with a single player beta planned in a few months.

Substantial details on the upcoming Diablo 4 were also recently revealed. Read more on that through here.
