The new Nintendo Switch was finally revealed today and like rumors have been stating for some time, it features an OLED screen and built-in LAN port. Unfortunately, those expecting any major improvements to the internal hardware will be disappointed. A Nintendo spokesperson recently confirmed to The Verge that the console does “not have a new CPU, or more RAM, from previous Nintendo Switch models.”

This is counter to rumors about it having 4K support and DLSS capabilities. In terms of battery life, the Switch OLED will last up to nine hours like the current model. It is slightly heavier though at 0.32 kg compared to the Switch’s 0.29 kg weight while also being a bit longer.

The Nintendo Switch OLED is set to release on October 8th for $349.99. Metroid Dread, which was revealed at E3 2021, is also launching on the same day and figures heavily in the console’s marketing. Perhaps we’ll see a hardware bundle announced en route to launch. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
