It’s the season of delays indeed. Well, it’s been the season of delays for more than a year at this point, and likely will be for some time to come, but these last few weeks in particular have seen quite a few games getting pushed back their intended release dates, from Dying Light 2 to Total War: Warhammer 3 to Horizon Forbidden West. Recent rumours suggested that Battlefield 2042 could follow suit, and as it turns out, those rumours were correct.

EA and DICE have announced on Twitter that Battlefield 2042 has indeed been delayed. It isn’t a very big delay, and will now a little less than a month after its previous October 22 launch date. In its message, DICE says that the COVID-19 pandemic has, as you may have imagined, presented a number of challenges during the game’s development, and given the scope of the game itself, they decided to take a little bit of extra time to polish up the game.

“Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams,” the announcement reads. “Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.”

Updates on Battlefield 2042’s open beta will be coming later in September. A previous rumour claimed that the beta would kick off on September 22, but it’s possible that plans may now have shifted, following the game’s delay. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on any new details that come our way.

Battlefield 2042 is now set to launch on November 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
